AVOID ALLSTATE! Out of the blue we receive a letter stating that our roof needed repaired or our insurance would be canceled. Being a responsible homeowner I check my roof and sure enough the most recent storm had bent back and broken off two small sections of shingle. I went to their office and was told that yes this was what they were informing me of and was told to repair and send pictures in which i did. Time goes by and i receive another letter stating that my roof needs repaired or my insurance will be cancelled. I don’t spot any additional damage so again I go to the office and this time I am told that my roof is old and that it needs replaced. I immediately contact several local reputable roofing companies to give my quotes on a new roof. One of the roofers tells me that I have major hail damage and that I need to file a claim with my insurance before my policy is cancelled. When I go to their office and explain the situation I am treated like I am a crook and advised of several things i can do but I could tell they did not want me filing a claim. I filed one anyways and the claims adjuster spotted the damage and soon after I was approved to get the new roof. The roofing companies were backed up on work due to recent storms and I was told it would be several weeks before I got a new roof. At this point it was going to be very close on whether or not I would get my new roof installed before my policy was cancelled. After several calls explaining the situation and being told that they would get back with me, which they never did, I finally had to get insurance elsewhere. I have never filed a claim in my life up until this point and am treated like this. It was their fault that this whole process took so long in the first place. I soon after canceled both my auto and boat policy with them because I could no longer trust them. I still had several months left of my boat policy but was told that I wouldn’t receive a prorated refund on it. Also be careful with their easy pay because the way they have it set up you may end up owing even after you have cancelled your auto pay for the policy as we did. So be warned that if your roof is slightly on the older side Allstate may require you to buy a new roof out of the blue or cancel your insurance. All around a terrible experience and am so glad we went elsewhere. My family was not in good hands.
